Knife Attack at Chinese Primary School Injures 5

In Guixi city, eastern China, an elementary school was the scene of a knife attack on Monday afternoon, injuring five people, according to local authorities and reports from New Delhi. This is the second knife attack in China this month. The victims have been hospitalized and are receiving medical treatment, as confirmed by the provincial public security authority, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.

Knife attacks have become a troubling trend in China, often linked to individuals experiencing discontent or mental health issues. Earlier this month, on May 7, a mass stabbing at a hospital in Yunnan province left two people dead and 21 injured.

With strict gun control laws in place for most civilians, China has seen a rise in mass knife attacks in public spaces over recent years. Last August, a mentally ill individual carried out a knife attack in a residential area of Yunnan, resulting in two deaths and seven injuries. Similarly, in July, a stabbing at a kindergarten in Guangdong province claimed six lives, including three children.

These incidents underscore the urgent need for increased vigilance and preventive measures to address the underlying causes of such attacks and to ensure the safety of the public, especially in vulnerable places like schools and hospitals.
